Analysis of water δ18O, δ17O and δ2H

Triple Liquid Water Isotope Analyser LGR TLWIA-45-EP

Instrument description:

This optical spectrometer is coupled to an autosampler for liquid sample and a spraying device. The laser spectrometer can analyse samples as small as 100 µL

Principle of analysis:

Absorption laser spectrometry: a nano-sample of water is sprayed on the path of the infra-red laser beam and the interferences created are proportional to the isotopic ratios of the sample (based on the Beer-Lambert law).

Type of analysis and accuracy:

Precision (1s):

High Performance Mode

  • δ2H: 0.2‰ (200 per meg)
  • δ17O: 0.03‰ (30 per meg)
  • 17O-excess (20 per meg)

High Throughput Mode

  • δ2H: 0.4‰ (400 per meg)
  • δ17O: 0.1‰ (100 per meg)
  • δ18O: 0.1‰ (100 per meg)
